What to Expect?

01
8:15 AM – Hotel Pickup in Hanoi

A Harmony shuttle collects guests from hotels around the Old Quarter and the Hanoi Opera House between 8:15 and 8:45 AM. The route runs along the Hanoi–Haiphong–Tuan Chau highway, a roughly 2.5-hour drive that cuts past the outskirts of the capital before opening onto the coast.

02
11:30 AM – Boarding at Tuan Chau Harbor

Guests board between 11:30 and 11:45 AM, and the crew handles a brief orientation before the boat sets off into the bay. It doesn’t take long before the water opens up into the karst field Halong Bay is known for.

03
12:30 PM – Set Menu Lunch Onboard

Lunch is served at 12:30 as a set menu built around Halong’s regional specialties, plated course by course in a single seating rather than a buffet line. As the boat cruises, it passes two of the bay’s most recognized formations, Fighting Cock Islet and Incense Burner Islet, visible from both sides of the dining deck.

04
2:00 PM – Sung Sot Cave

By 2:00 PM, the boat reaches Bo Hon Island and guests head into Sung Sot Cave, widely regarded as the bay’s most striking grotto. The interior opens into a chamber packed with stalactite and stalagmite formations, some tall enough to draw a genuine gasp the first time the path rounds a corner and the full space comes into view.

05
2:45 PM – Luon Cave

At 2:45 PM, guests transfer into kayaks or bamboo boats for the short paddle through Luon Cave’s low archway into the lagoon beyond. It’s quieter here than almost anywhere else on the route, closed in by cliffs, with the occasional splash of a langur moving through the trees overhead.

06
3:15 PM – Titop Island

The boat docks at Titop Island around 3:15 PM. Guests can swim at the sandy beach or climb to the summit for a full view over the bay, one of the more physically active stops on the tour, and consistently the one guests photograph the most.

07
4:00 PM – Sunset Service on the Sail Back

At 4:00 PM, the boat turns back toward the harbor, and this is where Harmony’s day diverges from a standard tour. Rather than heading straight in, the crew sets out wine, fresh fruit, and biscuits on deck, and guests spend the return sail watching the karsts catch the late light instead of packing up early.

08
6:15 PM – Return to Harbor and Transfer to Hanoi

The boat docks back at the harbor around 6:15 PM, and guests board the bus for the drive back to Hanoi. Most arrive at their hotel by around 9:00 PM, later than a typical day cruise, but the extended sunset stretch is the trade-off.

It was a very pleasant day. We went to Halong Bay for a day tour organised by Tony Mguyen who did a great job. He went the extra mile in picking us and dropping off by a taxi even though we were outside of the area. I would recommend this to anyone who is visiting Vietnam.
