Overview
Quang Phu Cau Incense Village sits about 35 kilometers south of Hanoi, close enough to visit without giving up a full day of your trip. This incense village Hanoi half day tour runs about five hours and pairs the incense village with Chuong Village, home to a 300-year-old conical hat-making tradition, giving travelers two distinct craft traditions in one efficient outing. There’s no Hanoi city sightseeing built in here, no Temple of Literature, no museum stop, just two working villages and the artisans who keep these crafts alive.
Highlights
- Watch conical hat makers at Chuong Village shape and stitch the iconic Vietnamese non la by hand
- Try painting and assembling your own conical hat in a hands-on workshop, and take it home as a souvenir
- Walk through Quang Phu Cau’s incense-drying yards, where thousands of dyed sticks form vivid color-blocked circles
- Visit a household specializing in incense dyeing, then see the village’s largest factory for a full view of production at scale
- Choose a morning or afternoon departure to fit around the rest of your day in Hanoi

What to Expect?
Pickup: Morning or Afternoon Departure
This tour runs on two possible schedules. Morning departures pick up between 7:30 and 7:45 AM and return by 12:15 to 12:30 PM. Afternoon departures pick up between noon and 12:15 PM and return by 5:15 to 5:30 PM. Either way, pickup is from your hotel or a private address in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, and the drive to Chuong Village takes just under an hour.
First Stop – Chuong Village
The tour opens at Chuong Village, where conical hat making has been passed down through local families for roughly 300 years. Walking through the village, guests meet artisans working through each stage of the process, splitting bamboo ribs, layering palm leaves, and stitching everything into the finished non la shape.
Most itineraries include a short hands-on session where guests can try painting or assembling their own hat, a small enough task to complete in the time available, and one that turns into a genuine souvenir rather than a shop-bought one.
Second Stop – Quang Phu Cau Incense Village
From Chuong Village, the group continues to Quang Phu Cau Village, where incense-making has shaped the local economy for more than a century. Strolling through the village center, guests see families working at small-scale production, splitting and dyeing incense sticks by hand in open-air yards.
A visit to a household that specializes in dyeing offers close-up photo opportunities of the bundled sticks in their signature reds and yellows, arranged in dense, fan-shaped clusters that photograph well from almost any angle.
Final Stop – The Village's Largest Incense Factory
The tour closes with a visit to Quang Phu Cau’s largest incense factory, where the scale shifts from individual households to full production. Guests see the entire process end to end, raw materials, drying, sorting, and packaging, and get a clearer sense of what incense-making means as a livelihood for the wider village, not just a craft demonstration for visitors.
Return to Hanoi
The tour wraps up back in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, either around 12:15 to 12:30 PM for morning departures or 5:15 to 5:30 PM for afternoon departures.
